Description

As part of the legal actions funded by Monte Alegre Association under the fight against illegal intensive pig farming in Alentejo, since its inception, Monte Alegre Association has been investing heavily in additional assessments from certified companies, legal aid from specialized lawyers, and psychological support to help the neighbors cope with the illegal pig farm in Vale de Santiago.

Through this legal help, Monte Alegre Association has been able to start changing the narrative in this David vs Goliath situation, being able to legally verify and prove all illegalities we knew existed (illegal borehole with no license, illegal buildings with no construction or operating license, illegal farm with no business license…) as well as others we didn’t know of (illegal utility contract for example), which have been going on for over 40 years with no accountability nor control.

Through the support received in the Crowdfunding Campaign (i.e. 2,262 Euros), Monte Alegre Association was able to fund the legal advisory fees until July 2024, which has proven to be the only way to start changing the narrative in this outrageous situation. We at the association believe that after six years of fight, we are close to taking this problem to a higher instance, taking it out of the local collusion that has allowed this illegal business to operate for over 40 years.
